Royal mint reports state just three two pound coins dated 1902 bearing the S mintmark were produced on the last day of operation of the Sydney mint although at least five examples have surfaced to date. It is possible that the dies saw further use after they were transferred to the Melbourne branch of the Royal mint upon the Sydney branch's closure (Museum Victoria, 2013) .The type can be differentiated from the more common London mint strikes by the presence of an S mintmark above the date.
